Biondivino is an independent wine shop that specializes in Italian wines.
It’s so hard to make it in the world of fine wine retail these days.
With so much corporate consolidation and so many new “big box” fine wine shops, there are hardly any independent wine retailers left these days.
That’s all the more reason why we love and admire Ceri Smith (above in the photo) and her amazing however small shop in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco.
For nearly ten years now, she has thrived as a retailer and carved out a spot for herself as one of the leading experts on Italian wines in the United States. She travels extensively in Italy, attends many of the calendar year’s most important wine events and tastings, and regularly visits producers, new and familiar. She is also often called upon to lecture on Italian wine in the U.S. and in Italy. And while she occasionally flirts with Georgian wine and the occasional Champagne, it’s Italian wine that drives her passion and her larger-than-life role in the world of Italian wine.
We couldn’t have been more thrilled when we learned that she was joined by another towering figure of the Italian wine world earlier this year.
David Lynch, author of the landmark Vino Italiano guide to the wines of Italy, leading sommelier, and frequent contributor to some of America’s most important magazines, has now joined the team at Biondivino where he is leading seminars, tastings, and classes devoted to Italian wine.
We simply cannot think of a more “dynamic duo” of Italian wine. Together what they are doing for Italian wine awareness, education, and visibility is practically unrivaled in the U.S. — or in the world for that matter.
We couldn’t be more proud that Bele Casel’s wines are regularly part of their portfolio.
