Today’s post is the first in a series of posts featuring retailers and restaurateurs that work with Bele Casel wines.
Bele Casel is available in most major U.S. markets. But I just had to start this series with a post about retailer Ken Chalmers (above) and his newish wine shop, Bird Rock Fine Wine in La Jolla, California.
Why, you may ask, did I feature a smallish shop in a sleepy beach town not far from the U.S.-Mexico border?
The answer is simple: La Jolla is where I grew up and Ken’s shop is literally a few blocks away from Bird Rock Elementary, where I went to elementary school.
When Bird Rock Fine Wine opened last summer, it became the first independently owned wine shop in La Jolla — a much welcomed and needed addition to the neighborhood.
And in a city where Napa Valley “Cab”, oaky Merlot, and California “Chard” trump all other categories, Ken’s more food-friendly approach to fine wine is a breath of fresh
Here’s what Ken had to say about the Bele Casel Prosecco Extra Dry, which he currently carries: “The Bele Casel is a great Prosecco, slightly citrus with yeasty fresh baked bread aromas. Long finish, crisp and good.”
Thank you, Ken, for supporting Bele Casel and thank you for bringing great wine to my home town! We needed it!
