According to the findings of a report published by the Italian regional daily Corriere del Vento, production of Asolo Prosecco DOCG has grown by nearly 50% over the last two vintages.
Here are some data:
-more than fifty new producers have appeared between the 2011 and 2012 vintages
– increase of 49% in number of applications for the Asolo DCOG
-1.5 million bottles produced (estimated capacity: 12 million bottles)
-€7.5 million in annual sales
The authors of the report attribute the growth to the fact that many growers are now vinifying and bottling their own wines instead of selling their fruit to négociant bottlers.
This is due, they believe, to the growing request for high-quality Prosecco throughout the world.
