{"id":6000,"date":"2015-11-03T18:19:58","date_gmt":"2015-11-03T17:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.belecasel.com\/en\/?p=6000"},"modified":"2020-05-07T19:50:22","modified_gmt":"2020-05-07T17:50:22","slug":"antonio-canova-tempio-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.belecasel.com\/en\/2015\/11\/03\/antonio-canova-tempio-italy\/","title":{"rendered":"One of Treviso&#8217;s artistic jewels: The Tempio by Antonio Canova"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/belecasel\/photos\/a.141244975906149.17635.118735571490423\/1068788479818456\/?type=3&amp;theater\">their Facebook<\/a>, the Ferraros recently posted this gorgeous photo of the hills of Asolo as seen from the nineteenth-century <em><strong>Tempio<\/strong><\/em> (Temple) by Italian sculptor, painter, and architect <em><strong>Antonio Canova<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Canova was born in the township of <em><strong>Possagno<\/strong><\/em> in Treviso province, not far from the Bele Casel winery and its vineyards, where the Ferraro family grows <em><strong>Glera<\/strong><\/em> and other indigenous grape varieties for its <em><strong>Asolo Prosecco DOCG<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 1800s, he was asked to restore and rebuild the church in his hometown.<\/p>\n<p>The result was what is now referred to as the <em><strong>Tempio Canoviano<\/strong><\/em> (the &#8220;Canovian Temple&#8221;) one of the great masterworks of Italy&#8217;s neoclassical movement during the nineteenth century.<\/p>\n<p>Antonio Canova&#8217;s Tempio is just one of the major works by him that can still be viewed in Treviso province.<\/p>\n<p>Even though he went to Rome to study, sculpt, and paint in his early 20s and became one of the leading forces of the art world in Italy at the time, he later returned to his native land where he executed some of the most famous works of art in the world today, many of which can also be found outside of Italy in places liked the <em><strong>Louvre<\/strong><\/em> in Paris and the <em><strong>Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/strong><\/em> in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The most amazing thing is that you can view some of great works at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museocanova.it\/\">Canova museum<\/a> in Possagno, not far from Asolo.<\/p>\n<p>Some of his works can also be seen in the Municipal Museum of Asolo proper.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over on their Facebook, the Ferraros recently posted this gorgeous photo of the hills of Asolo as seen from the nineteenth-century Tempio (Temple) by Italian sculptor, painter, and architect Antonio Canova.
